Larry Sillman's vast professional background provides him with a strong experience base as Principal in Charge for all types of projects. His involvement comes in the early stages of a project in the site planning and continues until the project has been successfully closed out.


As Principal in Charge of projects and Director of educational projects, Larry Sillman has personally supervised all projects since the firm's inception. He monitors his team as they create and finalizes the design, and manages the team during construction. Another one of his strengths is in obtaining State funding and in the processing of projects for State approval. 


Larry Sillman keeps abreast with the latest State activities and school designs through his memberships in the Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH) and Council of Educational Facilities Planners (CEFP). Larry Sillman is very familiar with the requirements and laws of the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC), Office of Local Assistance (OLA), and the Division of the State Architect (DSA).


Larry Sillman's background and experience allow him to design buildings, which are modern and appealing to stakeholders. This, along with his construction expertise, provides a client the ability to easily assemble a project and know that it can be successfully guided throughout the bureaucratic processes and built in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Rod Wright's background brings a strong experience base in corporate office, industrial and concrete tilt-up design. He was a member of HCH Partners (a 40-person architectural, civil, and planning firm) from 1977 to 1995, and President of the firm from 1983 to 1995. He then went into private practice until forming Sillman Wright Architects in 2001. 


Rod Wright's variety of project experience enables him to provide quality control and quality assurance for each and every Sillman Wright Architects' projects. At each submittal milestone, Rod Wright conducts a QC/QA review of the construction documents prior to the submittal. He identifies items for correction utilizing industry standards for consistency and clarity. He also identifies where constructability challenges may be mitigated and potential value engineering of project components.


Additionally, Rod Wright conducts monthly in-house training seminars for the Sillman Wright Architects' staff. Topics include drafting standards and techniques, design trends, construction issue resolutions, and management procedures. This allows the Sillman Wright Architects' team to stay current with industry standards. It also makes for an increasingly knowledgeable staff who strive for excellence on all project tasks.

Brett Tullis has 15 years of experience practicing architecture, interiors and urban design in traditional Design/Bid/Build as well as Design/Build. Utilizing a holistic approach that encompasses all phases of design from conceptual design and programming to construction documents and construction administration, he has been involved in a wide variety of projects from public libraries to mixed use urban high rises, corporate office campuses and sophisticated master plans.  As an integral part of a design team, he is responsible for designing and directing projects both internally and with clients to insure the quality and timeliness of each project and communicating the project vision with clients, users and  public agencies.

Mark Mattson has nearly 28 years of experience in architecture, with over 20 years of experience in healthcare architecture. He has worked on a variety of projects that range from large scale hospital projects and master plans to medical office buildings and tenant improvements. During that time he participated in all architectural design phases.

Over the years Mark Mattson has developed a respected working relationship with OSHPD in San Diego and Sacramento. He has participated with OSHPD for preliminary design review, permitting and project close out.

Tom Newcomer's extensive experience in the design of educational facilities makes him a valuable member of this team. He uses his management and communication skills to coordinate comprehensive meetings with staff, students and other stakeholders to understand the relevant issues and create a design that reflects current technologies and teaching methods.


Since 2000, he has been the Project Architect for many San Diego Unified School District (now known as San Diego City Schools) modernization and addition projects under Proposition MM. This gives Tom Newcomer extensive and invaluable experience in working with and understanding the special demands students and faculty require.
