A beautiful 24,000 sf 2-story facility featuring flexible event space on the top floor, and the historic Los Angeles County Fire Museum at ground-level. SILLMAN worked closely with the City of Bellflower to design a flexible Community Events Center that could operate as 3-Buildings-in-1, and host multiple simultaneous events. The design of the building also reflects the architectural character of the surrounding buildings built in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
The City of Bellflower wanted to resuscitate their once thriving downtown area and also lacked a City facility to host spaces for events and celebrations, which would also provide a revenue stream for the City. “We previously had nowhere to host large events locally and had to spend money in other cities, rather than spending it here in Bellflower,” said Len Gorecki, Director of Public Works. He continued, “The economic benefit of the facility has been far-reaching and incredibly positive for our City.”
Located at the front door of the City’s downtown area, the iconic project has become a source of pride for the citizens of Bellflower. Since opening, the excitement of the Mayne Community Center has attracted a surge of new development in the area, including new restaurants, residential developments, and a new neighboring parking structure.
